A growing number of people every year initiate their mattress purchase process over the Internet; in 2004 27% of all buyers used the Internet as their primary source of information up from 7% in 2000. Less than 1 percent of all mattresses sold in 2004 were purchased over the Internet because of the inability to lie on the mattress prior to purchasing it. Sleep Squad is a multi-channel mattress retailer that solves the "try before you buy" issue preventing consumers from purchasing mattresses via the phone, catalogs, and the Internet.
Sleep Squad solves this problem by helping the customer select two or three mattresses that may be right for them over the phone or on the Internet. We then set an appointment with the customer for a two hour window. Sleep Squad then shows up at the agreed upon location with the mobile mattress showroom, a combination delivery vehicle and retail store on wheels. The customer is given ample time to try the mattresses they selected in privacy without a sales person hovering over them. When the sale is made the company employees then remove the customer's old mattress if need be and set up the very mattress the customer tried in the mobile showroom within minutes.
